I woke up on Christmas morning to discover I had a cracked tooth. Living in the Palm Springs area, I still haven’t found a dentist I trust, so I called my dentist of over 40 years in Pasadena—Dr. Stephanie Lee's. The voicemail said the office was closed for the holidays and wouldn’t reopen until January 7th, but for emergencies, we were instructed to call Dr. Lee directly.
I honestly didn’t expect a response, but to my surprise, Dr. Lee called me back within 15 minutes—wow. I explained the situation, and she said she would put together a crew to help. About 30 minutes later, she called again and told me she could see me the following Tuesday. I was incredibly grateful.
When I arrived on Tuesday the 30th, I was warmly greeted by Pearl, whom I’ve known for over 40 years. She was there handling administrative duties, and Jill, the dental assistant, made me feel comfortable throughout the entire visit. Of course, Dr. Lee was there as well, and I thanked all of them for coming in during the holidays—it truly meant so much.
Dr. Lee carefully assessed the situation and confirmed that I needed a crown. Using state-of-the-art equipment, she was able to prep the tooth and create a new ceramic crown efficiently and expertly. When you love what you do, it shows—and Dr. Lee certainly does.
This experience was nothing short of a Christmas miracle. I can’t thank Dr. Lee and her team enough for their professionalism, dedication, and kindness.

I love getting my teeth cleaned. It's the only doctor's appointment that I affirmatively look forward to, and I am so grateful to have found this office. All the wonderful ladies at the front desk, from Maricella to Pearl, and Dr. Lee are so warm and welcoming and professional. And Angel, whom I see pretty often to do my cleanings... let me just say that that man has changed my life. It's not an overstatement. He taught me how to brush my teeth correctly and floss my teeth correctly and what type of toothbrush to use and how (electric is NOT a panacea, and certainly not for your gums!)... you wouldn't think that an adult would need be retaught these things, but I did! I had been doing it incorrectly my entire life, the result being that my gums would bleed every time I got my teeth cleaned.... Not anymore! My gums have never been happier, the happiest after a visit with him. Angel is so thorough, meticulous and obsessed with getting every little plague particle off my teeth... thank you Jesus for this man! He makes my teeth literally sparkle. I leave his chair feeling like a million bucks. Do yourself a favor and book an appointment at this office. Ask for Angel... your smile deserves it.

I love Dr. Lee. She is the most detailed oriented dentist I've ever met. she'll study your teeth and give you a short and long term plan. I love that she uses a holistic and conservative approach. I really hated gking to the dentist as a kid, but she really helps calm my nerves and make sure I don't feel the angst when I'm there. I'm very happy and really trust her to keep my teeth healthy. i dont live close by anymore (a flight away lol) but still come back for her. im so glad she can help make a crown and fill my cavities all while im visiting during Thanksgiving break. also, she has the warmest staff too! jill and Pearl were really helpful. the reminders before my appt was so helpful too! btw.... one of the reasons why I love Dr Lee is she has state-of-the-art equipment. the digital scanner for my teeth is so cool. The office feels and is very professional, clean, and modern! There's a small parking lot and plenty street parking. She is located on the second floor.

Everyone is extremely nice, professional and customer service oriented my last two appointments have been with Nora and I have to say her manner and professionalism and detail is beyond any I've experienced with other dental providers, she takes the time to educate which is something I always personally enjoy and she loves her job which clearly comes across. The entire staff is very knowledgeable and customer service oriented which is pretty rare to find at that level these days, and of course Dr. Stender is fantastic, approachable and makes you feel welcomed! Can't wait for my next follow up...I've never looked forward to dental appointments in my life before this!
Update: 2/5/25 I have been seeing the newer hygienist Jackie, for about two years now and I am very delighted with her care and knowledge. Dr. Lee is also very welcoming and thorough, my questions are always answered with as much information as possible to make the right decision for the recommended course of treatment. I do not see myself moving elsewhere anytime soon!☺️

As we all know, going to the dentist can be a painful experience, but my experience at Science of Smiles is the best I have had of all the dentists I have had in my lifetime. (I'm 64). Firstly, the front office is friendly and helpful and professional. I get my teeth cleaned here twice a year and Angel is a terrific, thorough and empathetic hygienist who is as concerned about your comfort as he is about caring for your teeth. Then there is Dr. Lee. She is great! Personable, kind, funny, meticulous. She is the best dentist I have ever had. Just yesterday she applied a crown to a rear molar. A tough location and she did it with ease with minimal discomfort. Lastly, I am impressed with all the technology they have. 3D imaging for constructing the crown I got was super cool to watch. I know I am good hands when I come here. It gives me peace of mind to know that my dental needs are being so well cared for. I highly recommend Science of Smiles.

Dr. Stephanie Lee and her entire team, including the hygienists and the office receptionists are AMAZING. I've been going there for a while now and often, including for regular teeth cleaning appointments, dental checkups, Invisalign, and teeth cosmetic issues. Every appointment starts and ends so easily because the entire office is friendly, approachable, helpful & pleasant. I'm convinced that Dr. Lee cares about my teeth as much as I do . . . if not more! Dr. Lee is knowledgeable, thorough, creative, and explains things in a way that I (a non-dentist) understand. She also thinks outside the box; she doesn't rush through an appointment; and she genuinely loves her job. When Dr. Lee is working on my teeth, I often feel like she is a thoughtful artist & her work is great. My smile has definitely improved under the care of Dr. Lee and her team! Many continued thanks to all of them! I highly recommend them; and my husband goes there now too and also thinks they are all awesome.

Dr. Stephanie P. Lee is kind, caring, and incredibly skilled. She takes the time needed to make sure her patients understand all the treatment options. My case is complicated by psoriatic arthritis and decades of immune suppression. I have three joint replacements, as well as recent sinus and brain surgery. Dr. Lee proactively reads my case notes, as well as current research on the myriad drugs I am required to take. She is also more than willing to consult with my rheumatologist and infectious disease specialist on the best long-term dental treatment for me. There is no other dentist I trust more than Dr. Lee. It is an additional pleasure that her assistant is both highly skilled and kind. The office staff at Science of Smiles takes care to greet patients warmly by name, and operate with wonderful efficiency.

Had some issues with my prior dentist and decided to see Dr. Lee per friend's recommendation. I had to get a crown done due to a previous root canal. First off, I was pleased to be able to complete all my paperwork online instead of at the dentist office. Also, making appointments online also helped with the process.
The equipment this office uses seems to be state of the art. This is the first crown I have gotten done, but everything was done the same day. They were able to create the crown and place it on my tooth all in one afternoon. Dr. Lee explained the process and shared the photos and x-rays of my tooth as we went along so I wasn't in the dark as to what they were doing. So far I have had no issues with my tooth and bite. I'm very happy with the results.
I'm also going in for my regular cleanings now.

Hands down, this is the best dentistry in Southern California. My family gets exceptional care from start to finish. I was searching for solutions after being told I needed 3 more crowns. I admit I neglected my oral health for several years and I knew I needed work just wanted to preserve my original teeth as much a possible. Dr. lee gave me genuine and honest advice and feedback. I just had my first appointment of 5(the aftermath of ignoring the dentist for several years) Dr. Lee did an amazing job. There was a lot of drilling and filling but I have surprisingly little pain afterwards. Nora did a wonderful job with the cleaning as usual. I was told by Dr. Stender that one of my tooth probably needs to be extracted down the road. He reassured me that there are no urgency at this moment. I really appreciate his honesty. Other dentist would probably push for the treatment right away. Recently I went to Dr. Lee’s practice for a teeth cleaning and consultation regarding a toothpaste allergy. Angel, my hygienist, was fantastic. He helped clean my teeth and provide wonderful feedback on brushing and flossing. Apparently I have been flossing wrong all these years and he guided me on how to floss effectively. I have a toothpaste allergy and Dr. Lee was able to recommend a toothpaste I can use and doesn’t cause an allergic reaction. Her front office staff was friendly and filling out paperwork was easy on a tablet. Dr. Lee is friendly and caring. I felt my concerns were heard and addressed.

I love Dr. Lee. She is extremely thorough with check ups. I have an irrational fear of going to dental offices, so it’s nice that the staff is very friendly and welcoming. I used to dislike dental cleaning appts, but I look forward to them now since the staff is so gentle and meticulous w the cleaning. Dr. Lee helped redo my old filings, and my teeth look so much better now. I also got Invisalign (or the dupe brand) but I’m super happy with the results— no more funky smiles lol. It’s tough to get last minute appts since they’re always booked so I recommend calling and booking ahead of time!

I started with Dr. Stender over some 30 years ago and now have met Dr. Lee and feel confident with her and has great bedside manner. Dr. Lee is great. I go to her now even though she is out of network and costs me a substantial amount out of pocket because she is extremely precise and detail-oriented, and she devotes all the time necessary to perform each procedure the way it should be done. Her hygienist Angel is also outstanding. I now have him clean my teeth. He spends an hour instead of 30 minutes (like prior hygienists) and the difference is noticeable.

Dr. Stender and the whole team at his office are not just your dentists, they’re your friends. And not only are they your friends, but they are extremely skilled at what they do, highly capable, and very intelligent. You can trust them in your mouth and with your teeth.
You start every appointment with a bright smile and a warm “hello!” from everyone in the office. Dr. Stander himself is so friendly and kind, always concerned with your comfort and well-being, that you know you are in good hands. He is always ready to answer any questions or concerns with an intelligent and understandable answer, and he will let you know exactly what he is doing during procedures, as well as the process and the science behind it all, so you never feel unnerved. All of the hygienists at the office are fantastic too! They are gentle in your mouth, they don’t stab around your gums with sharp pokey things, and they give you caring and smart advice without guilting you for not flossing. What’s more, each time you have an appointment, they catch up with you and your life, with enthusiasm and laughter, like an old friend!
My sister had extreme anxiety when it came to the dentist, to the point that she did not go for many years, and she would break down in tears in the dentist chair. Then along came Dr. Stender and his team, and she now feels safe and comfortable and in good hands! The anxiety is no more! She had a lot of deep dental work that she had to have done to catch up, and she spent a great sum of money having the work done. Get this: because of all the emotional struggles and all that she went through with them, they personally sent her a great big fruit basket along with a kind card!! No joke! This the kindest dentist—ever.
Going from my old dentist to Dr. Stender, I learned about a whole side of dentistry that I never knew existed. In other words, I didn’t realize all that my old dentist had been lacking—skill, intelligence, kindness, and smiles. Dr. Stender and his whole team are truly concerned with your well-being and your complete oral health. They specialize in preserving your teeth as much as possible, which means saving as much of the natural tooth as possible, and working with your mouth and teeth. They never just jump straight to “Time to fill a cavity”—instead, they look at all options: will this heal in its own? Is there a deeper problem that needs to be addressed? (Dr. Stender is so skilled that he can often fill a small cavity without using novicane!) You know that you are truly getting comprehensive dentistry with Dr. Stender!

I have been seeing Dr. Stender for over five years now, but I want to share a story of his keen attentiveness to health that ended up changing how I breathe and sleep. I went to see Dr. Stender some time in early 2018 for a cleaning, and after he examined me he noticed that I had a lot of wear on my teeth from what he suspected was grinding. He pointed out my swollen jaw muscles and recommended I get tested for sleep apnea. I ended up taking two sleep tests that confirmed mild but not severe apnea, but most notably that I wasn't breathing through my nose while I slept. He suspected it could be related to allergies so he recommended I see an allergist. Once at the allergist, Dr. Flora Vardanian performed a series of tests that confirmed allergies to several features of the natural environment. She also noticed that my septum was deviated on my left side. She recommended an Ear, Throat, and Nose (ENT) specialist and once there Dr. Sean Delaney confirmed the deviated septum and added that I had abnormally enflamed turbinates on my right side, which when combined prevented me from breathing through my nose properly and efficiently. After about a year following the initial diagnosis by Dr. Stender, I went ahead with a surgery that would correct my deviated septum and reduce the enlarged turbinates in my nose. I never expected to feel so differently and to breath so differently. I notice that I sleep a lot better, and actually have dreams which in the past were rare or non-existent for me. I would attribute this to finally being able to gain deep sleep due to the improved breathing. I cannot believe how much better I breathe now, and it was all thanks to Dr. Stender and his staff's attentiveness to my condition, and their ability to think outside of just teeth and determine that breathing and the health of your teeth are interrelated. Dr. Stender and his team are a wonderful group of people who sincerely want to improve the health of their patients, and not just their teeth. I feel lucky and grateful to have experienced such care.

I am co-owner of Crystalmark Dental Systems, the manufacturer of the Air Abrasion Unit Dr Stender purchased from us way back in 2006. I then became better acquainted with him at Biomimetic CE and other courses that we attended. A few years back I cracked the right rear molar, (#32) that had an old amalgam. I chose Dr. Stender to do the biomimedic repair procedure. Without anesthesia and under a microscope, with a diamond bur and lots of water, he carefully removed the old amalgam, cleaned up the mess, Georgene Chased out the cracks and prepped the surface all with our air abrasion unit. He then did the biomimedic biobase, lightly air abraded that. He then scanned measurements for the cad cam onlay, which was then milled, and put it in the oven for 45 minute cure. Finally he air abraded the surface of it before bonding it in. Done to perfection. No anesthesia, no post op sensitivity, ever! Could not ask for a better outcome. Thank you Dr. Stender.

I had been with Dr. Stender for 15 years. Firstly I would like to say his skill and dedication to giving the best treatment is second to none. As a child I had quite a bit of dental work done and they were not quite up to the highest standard. As a result, I had frequent relapse and needed major treatments from time to time.
After seeing Dr. Stender at the recommendation of my colleague, he took care of the old dental work and made them last! My teeth and gum have been very healthy ever since.
Once I had an emergency late Friday night and called him. He showed up 7am the next morning and took care of the problem. It was one of those long holiday weekends where people planned many activities. It would've ruined my weekend if he was not willing to go the extra mile to fix the problem asap.
He also don't just fix your problem, but looks for signs of trouble early on. So he would be able to tell me how to do some preventive cleaning and suggest minor dental work to fix a problem that just started developing. This gives me plenty of time to "plan" a dental treatment because I have months of lead time. Also, I can delay a treatment (without harm) until next year so that my insurance will cover it. All this is possible because he is able to diagnose troubles early.
The staff in Dr. Stender's office is one of the best. They create a very warm and friendly atmosphere and very skillful in doing their job.
If you are looking for a dentist, I will highly recommend Dr. Stender. You won't be disappointed.

I never thought I would be writing a review for a dental office, much less it being a positive one. A cracked incisor that finally led to enough pain caused me to search "tooth extraction" for what I thought was a total loss. Dr. Stender's office was one of the top hits, and had high ratings. I called in hoping to get the extraction done ASAP and begin the healing process for getting an implant, as that is what a prior dentist I visited once had said was the only solution. The front office said I could come in immediately and be seen by a dentist today. After a tour of the facilities, I had the problem area x-rayed, and met Dr. Stein. She explained that the tooth was indeed salvageable, and it would actually be cost effective to save the tooth rather than have an implant. Furthermore, she was able to start the therapy on the same day. In addition, Dr. Stein had called personally to make sure the experience was satisfactory (it was superb), and that the office was open to calls early the following morning. I would highly recommend giving this office a chance at providing dental services. As for the procedure, I had root canal therapy on the #7 tooth, where a sizable chunk of the visible tooth had broken off. As I see it, no dental procedure can be pleasant, so I was shocked to find myself dozing off in the chair, something I have never been able to do. The initial injection of anesthesia is always an unpleasant part of the start, and I neither got warning nor felt it, another reason this experience was particularly good.

Extremely well equipped and modern dentist's office and everyone here was extremely helpful. I don't have dental insurance and haven't been to a dentist in ages, but needed to go after a front tooth chipped (a small chip but still annoying) and another dentist filled it but it came off within a few days. Because they spent more time trying to upsell me on full crowns than doing the filling I had a feeling I should try to get it fixed somewhere else and came here. The end result was much better, it's so far stayed on for longer than 2 days and the other dentist who saw me pretty quickly pointed out it seems like I grind my teeth in my sleep and might have sleep apnea. I do have sleep apnea but only found out recently and didn't mention it since it seemed irrelevant, and I didn't know I grind my teeth. She pointed out how she noticed and gave me all the info needed to ask my doctor about if I ever want any of the relevant dental devices/procedures covered in my insurance. She was extremely helpful and professional and did what I came there for quickly and really well. Considering this office seems to subspecialize in treating sleep apnea and my case has been difficult I'll probably be heading back in the near future and I don't feel worried about heading to the dentist for once.

I am always apprehensive to go to the dentist as I have had many painful experiences with cavities over the years. However, Dr. Stender has up-to-date technology and I have had several cavities filled at his office that did not require any numbing agents. (Despite no Novocain, these fillings have been the least painful of all that I have experienced).
Also, the office staff are friendly and flexible. Today my hygienist was sick so the doctor cleaned my teeth. The office also offers helpful preventative education and gives you multiple options when possible. I don't like going to the dentist, but this office is the best one I know.

In the late 1980,s ir early 1990,s I called 1 800 dentist because I wanted dentist in pasadena where I lived and still live. I picked dr. Stender out of the list that was given to me. I went to Dr. Stender for TMJ which I've had for a couple of years now. I had heard about surgeries and all kinds of things to correct this online...invasive surgeries, braces, etc. people who have this are desperate so pay thousands and tens of thousands of dollars to fix it. Dr. Stender calmly assessed my jaw himself and with the help of some machines and he said it's fixable. He ended up making me a night guard that fit like a retainer, behind my teeth, which kept me from grinding at night. Then he (and the wonderful Connie) taught me some exercises which helped stretch my jaw. They also did some laser therapy which helped relax the muscles. And, they educated me in how to retrain my bite at rest- teeth slightly apart, not touching, so I would stop clenching, and it worked. I gotta say, I was skeptical that anything would help, and it took a couple of months, but I'm better! My jaw doesn't even make a grinding clicking sound anymore. I can even eat sandwiches. :) It feels like a miracle. Also, the pricing was incredibly reasonable. I'm so grateful. Highly recommend of course. :)

After a lot of research, I chose to go and see Dr. Stender. I was looking for a doctor that offered Ozone in the office as an alternative to the typical drill and fill. I have had some really terrible experiences at the dentist office in the past. In the end, it turned out to be just a chip, which he fixed in about 30 seconds. I have been so impressed with the level of care at Dr Stender's office. Dr Stender is up to date on cutting edge technology and technically excellent as a dentist. I've been to a number of dentists and the proof is in his work, each procedure has been excellent and the outcomes pain and issue free.
